Susanne Beer

Susanne Beer studied Social Sciences in Berlin and Toulouse. Her research focused on philosophical concepts of modernity, history of National Socialism and Holocaust, as well as on Sociology of Culture and Gender. In 2007 she graduated with a comparative study of  Theodor W. Adorno and Guy Debord, focussing on their critics of cultural production of identity.

Since 2008 Susanne Beer is a research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen. She will write her thesis on the situational context of helping behaviour with special regard to the so-called „silent heroes“ – people who helped Jews in hiding between 1941 and 1945.

Besides her studies, Susanne Beer has worked for several youth education programs on the subject of racism, anti-Semitism and cultural industry. In 2004 she founded „reflect!“ – a network of young academics aiming on the development of critical thought in Science and Education.
