Karin Schürmann

Karin Schürmann studied Political Science, American Language and Literature and Educational Science at the University of Bonn. In her MA thesis on cultural memory, she analyzed the so called “Walser-Bubis-Debate” and the controversy about the German Holocaust Memorial, as she found striking correlations between both controversies and the formation of a national identity in Germany.

Besides her studies and after graduation, Karin Schürmann worked as an editorial assistant for the German television station PHOENIX and as an research assistant for the Center for Interdisciplinary Memory Research at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen.

Since 2008 Karin Schürmann is a research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and participates as a PhD candidate in the project Shifting Baselines which is part of the research project climate and culture.
